'Speeding' Car Hits Brick Wall; Youths Screaming Withpain after Huge Impact

A WITNESS has described how five teenagers had a lucky escape after crashing a stolen vehicle into a brick letterbox, narrowly missing a unit.

Amy Cairns heard a car "speeding horrifically" down Oak St in Andergrove at 2.30am yesterday when she woke to go to the bathroom. .

"There was a speed chase," she said. "I heard sirens following the car."

Seconds later the vehicle, which was carrying four 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old youth, crashed into a brick fence and letterbox at a unit block.

When Ms Cairns, who lives nearby, walked out the front of her house she saw two police cars already at the scene.

"It's very lucky they didn't hit a unit," Ms Cairns said.

"They were going so fast."

Acting Inspector Craig Sanderson said the police were trying to intercept the vehicle, which had been stolen from Glenella.

"Obviously it could have been a very serious incident due to the nature of the driving," he said. …
