IT was all over in a second when a motorcyclist sped the down the Bruce Highway in Gympie on Thursday.

While the rider cruised on through to town without police interception, Gympie Road Policing Unit Officer in Charge Sergeant Peter Webster said he's all but got away with it.

The rider can expect a knock on the door of his Sunshine Coast home in coming days as Sunshine Coast police have his details thanks to a member of the public passing on his motorbike's registration number.

Sgt Webster said around 2.20pm yesterday, there were reports of the motorcyclist doing "excessive speed and driving erratically" along the highway before turning towards Gympie township.

The rider passed Sgt Webster at Excelsior Rd and was estimated to be travelling at 100kmh in a 60kmh zone.

Sgt Webster said the offence follows a recent spate of motorcyclists behaving badly on Gympie region roads.

He said while it was usually not too common a problem, lately there has been a rise in occurrences. …
