Air-Conditioner Is Necessary Indulgence

WELL, it had to come, I guess. I finally relented.

I'm not a fan of using the air-conditioning at home, but last weekend I just couldn't last any longer.

Most times we get by with just a pedestal fan, blowing warm air and every now and then you get a bit of relief as it whips by.

But this weekend just gone was quite different.

With outside temperatures in the mid-30s it just got too much. Even with all the windows wide open and the fan going.

It was stifling!

I can recall not long after we arrived in Gladstone just over three years ago we went out to Lake Awoonga and stopped off at the first dam lookout. It was a pretty hot day and I can recall moving my hand very, very quickly a split second after I put it on the pipe fence rail. It was that hot, but I reckon this time it's even hotter than then.

I know, I know, we haven't reached the record temperature recorded in Gladstone, 39.8 degrees back in 1998, but it's still pretty tough going. …
