Dayspring Village is seeking Secret Santa volunteers to help share the gift of Christmas with its 110 residents. Dayspring is a mental health assisted-living facility designed to serve the needs of adults with schizophrenia and schizo-affective disorders. 'TOOLS TO QUIT' SMOKING

The Northeast Florida Area Health Education Center is offering a free tobacco cessation class 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Baker County Health Department, 480 W. Lowder St. in Macclenny. The "Tools to Quit" class will include four weeks' worth of nicotine replacement therapy, funded by a settlement in a national lawsuit against tobacco companies. Participants must register by calling (904) 482-0189.

OFFICER A LIFESAVER

Orange Park police officer Brian Lapointe received a Life-Saving Award from the American Police Hall of Fame. He was honored for saving a woman who was trapped beneath a commercial lawn mower when it fell down the bank of the St. Johns River and became entangled in vines on May 30 in the 800 block of River Road.

Monetary donations are needed for the 32nd annual J.P. Hall Children's Charities Christmas Party for children 14 and younger.
