CRICKET: Sunshine Coast Scorchers all-rounder Alecz Day inspired his side to victory against Redlands at Buderim's John Blanck Oval yesterday.

Day was instrumental in the win, which delivered the Scorchers a spot in next weekend's one-dayer semi-finals.

The victory kept the Scorchers in fourth position on the one-day ladder, edging Toombul out of the last finals berth.

Day notched a gallant 40 to top-score for his side.

"It would have been nice to be there all the way to the end, but I did okay I suppose," Day said, "but you've just got to be happy with a win."

Day was superb with the ball, claiming figures of 3-17 in his best bowling effort of the season.

"The bowling group did a really good job today," Day said.

"Keeping a team to 130 in a one-day match is very pleasing and you're always happy with that."

Redlands was in second place on the one-day ladder heading into yesterday's clash, after winning two of its three games. …
