The Jaguars' youthful secondary is starting to build up depth at safety, thanks to Winston Guy.

The second-year player stripped Buffalo quarterback EJ Manuel on a blitz, leading to a turnover in a 27-20 loss to the Bills on Sunday at EverBank Field.

Guy started for the second consecutive game in place of rookie free safety Josh Evans, who has battled a shoulder injury. He also saw time at strong safety, spelling Chris Prosinski, who started for the inactive Johnathan Cyprien.

The 6-foot-1, 218-pound Guy recorded six tackles. He nearly provided the defensive play of the game with his sack on Manuel. Guy lined up at strong safety right at the line of scrimmage. Manuel rolled away from him, but Guy showed off his impressive acceleration to track him down and deliver a hit from behind.

"It was a perfect call," Guy said. "They slid the protection away from me. It was a momentum changer on that play. It gave the offense the opportunity to score and put us back in the game."

Defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks recovered the fumble at the Jaguars' 45-yard line. The sack went for a loss of 10 yards.

"The most impressive thing is he was ball aware," Marks said. "He saw how EJ was holding the ball, and he got it out."

The Jaguars made the most of Guy's play, scoring a touchdown on the drive to tie the game 20-20 with 13:50 left to play.

"He sees things well," Jaguars cornerback Alan Ball said. "We've always known that he's a hell of an athlete. Now, he's putting a different aspect to his game, in terms of reading things and not reacting so much. The more he progresses, he'll do really well."

Guy, who has started two games in his career, did make mistakes. His inexperience showed on two Buffalo touchdowns.

Manuel found receiver Robert Woods for a 7-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. …
