Champs to Defend Title Ipswich Hosts State Vigoro Championships Today

THE IPSWICH A-grade senior vigoro side will look to defend its Queensland title when the state vigoro championships start today.

Ipswich will field senior and veterans teams in the titles at the vigoro fields at East Ipswich that will see 10 teams and around 130 players take part.

The A-grade senior teams will be Ipswich, Townville, Fassifern, Cairns and Mackay, while Ipswich, Fassifern, Sunshine Coast, Townsville and Cairns will contest the veterans.

Ipswich won the senior title last year against Townsville in Mackay. Ipswich captain Deanne Lawrie said the side was "well balanced" with some key players in form.

"We are hoping to back up and win it again and we look like we have got a fairly strong side again this year," she said.

"We are fairly confident we can do ok.

"Most of our players are the top three or four in their club sides.

"Jodie Spall is back in our side. She didn't play last year but she opens the batting and bowling for her club side TC United, so she is a strong player to have back in. …
