Siblings' Hard Work Is Rewarded with Results

HONING their surf rescue skills by training 20 hours a week may not seen like everyone's idea of a good time, but Bundaberg brother and sister Marcel and Lateisha Stam did just that, all with a smile on their faces.

Enjoying every aspect of the surf rescue competition, their dedication paid off, with the siblings securing Under 15 Champion Life Saver honours at last weekend's Wide Bay Capricorn Surf Rescue Championships at Moore Park Beach.

The Bundaberg Surf Life Saving club juniors couldn't be more thrilled with the result, especially 13-year-old Marcel who competed up an age group to contest the under 15s.

"I was really surprised when I won the tube -- I didn't expect to win that event," he said.

"I also had to use a board that I'd never used before."

Winning the respective male and female under-15 Champion Life Saver secured both Marcel and Lateisha a place at the State Championships in March.

For Lateisha, who is more comfortable in the water than out of it, the result means she has a decision to make. …
