WANTING to make a difference in her community is why Rebecca Humphries is going back a second time to the YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament.

The 17-year-old Rockhampton Grammar School graduate said she participated in last year's youth parliament and really enjoyed the experience.

"I was quite excited; you don't need anything to be accepted, just an interest in wanting to better the community and make a change," she said. "It's an amazing experience and I encourage anyone to do it; you get to meet so many new people who have the same interests as you."

The motivated teen who has applied to study law at QUT in Brisbane said she spent four days in parliament and worked with her teammates to create legislation on child safety.

"We went down in April for a couple of days which was like an introduction and then we went down for residential week later in the year which is where we got to go to Parliament and give a two-minute speech on our chosen topic," Rebecca said. …
