IF YOU'VE got a stomach ache and it's after hours, who are you going to call?

Mackay's bulk-billed Dial a Local Doctor service is here to stay, one of their doctors, Manda Brits, says.

Every second night she is on call from 6 o'clock to midnight to visit patients in their homes and while it means she's working more, she doesn't mind.

The most interesting aspect is where she sees her patients.

"I've examined patients in their garden, on the front patio, where ever they are and where ever they feel comfortable," she said.

"Mostly it's in the lounge room. It depends on the types of problems. But if you're looking at a throat it doesn't matter where you are."

Dr Brits said on a weekday they attended to about 10-15 patients at their homes, and about 20-30 on weekends.

It's for non-emergency situations and she said the most common callouts were for problems including migraines, bronchitis, gastro and abdominal pain. …
