SOUTHERN Downs residents have an opportunity to take a seat on a newly-formed hospital board.

The Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service is calling for expressions of interest from suitably qualified members of the public to join the DDHHS Board for a three-year term from May.

Board chairman Mike Horan said there were 17 Hospital and Health Services across Queensland.

"Each HHS is independently and locally controlled by a board comprising of five or more people, with relevant experience, who are appointed for a fixed term," he said.

"We are looking for local people with management experience in health, business, finance or human resources, with clinical or legal expertise, or with health consumer knowledge to join our team."

The Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service provides public health and hospital services to a population of about 265,000 across an area of 85,000sqkm including the local government areas of Toowoomba, Western Downs, Southern Downs, South Burnett, Goondiwindi, Cherbourg and part of the Banana Shire Council. …
