Stalwarts of Our Community Stand Up to Receive Their Awards

BORN and bred Ridgelands man Robert Chippendale is the Rockhampton Region's Citizen of the Year.

He was among Rockhampton Region's outstanding achievers, volunteers and sportspeople recognised for their professionalism, dedication and community contributions at last night's 2014 Australia Day Awards Ceremony held at City Hall.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow announced the winners of this year's awards and thanked them for their outstanding contributions.

"I am thankful that we have such dedicated and committed residents within our community, and I am honoured to be able to acknowledge these outstanding heroes for their wonderful achievements," Cr Strelow said.

"All our recipients have contributed to our local community in one way or another. Many dedicate tireless hours to helping local organisations make a change in the lives of others.

"Our Citizen of the Year, Robert Chippendale, has had a lifelong involvement in the tight-knit community of Ridgelands and is a valued member of his community.''

Young Citizen of the Year Award - Ben Bowes

Ben started his sporting career in karate and boxing at 10 years old, and has gone on to win 10 Australian titles and 24 state titles.

Ben took out the bronze medal 2012 Karate World Championships, and won two Queensland boxing titles.

Ben is now using his interest in sports to help raise aware- ness of local and national charity organ- isations by participating in different events including Juvenile Diabetes, Legacy Fund, and for the Pink Ribbon Cancer Campaign.

Sportsperson of the Year - Kyle Anderson Kyle Anderson's passion for the game of darts has seem him compete on an inter- national level and grow the interest of this lesser known sport in our local community.

In 2013, Kyle participated in the world championships in London, and has completed the Dart Players Australia Tour at No.1.

Kyle is passionate about the game and mentors juniors in the sport to help improve their game. …
