Grogan Century Distracts from Pre-Game Drama

THE second day of the Brothers v Norths game on the Division 1 competition was thrown into chaos before a ball was bowled after a rule was relaxed to allow Brothers captain David Boge to take the field.

Boge has been struggling with a leg injury and initially made himself unavailable for the second day of the fixture, naming Patrick Turner to take his place as a substitute.

Early last week the substitute rule stopping Boge from playing was explained to the clubs, but after a meeting of the Div 1 captains and representatives of the Bundaberg Cricket Association (BCA) on Saturday morning Boge was allowed to play.

Norths preparation was disrupted and the players struggled to regain their composure, Brothers spearhead Matt Turich ripped through the batting order with five wickets to dismiss Norths for 153 and 128 to Steven Grogan put the result beyond doubt.

Grogan was able to relax and pick the balls to hit, the only mark on a near-faultless display with the bat was when he was on 97 and was hit on the helmet with a Patrick Power bouncer. …
