BRADY - SPICER: The engagement has been announced of Jeanette Ann, daughter of Mr and Mrs H.J. Spicer, Grafton, to Lance Patrick, son of Mr and Mrs W.J. Brady, of Moree.

Four candidates were endorsed at a meeting of the Casino Electorate Council of the Country Party for the by-election to be held on February 29 for the Casino seat in the Legislative Assembly. The four candidates are Ald R.W. Manyweathers, Mayor of Casino; Mr R.L. Nicholls, chairman of the Northern Co-operative Meat Company Ltd; Mr R.B. Ramsay, Drake, secretary of the North Coast District Council of the Graziers' Association, and Cr C.N. Yabsley, Coraki, president of the Woodburn Shire and chairman of the Richmond River Flood Mitigation County Council.

When first formers begin at the Grafton High School to-day, the total enrolment is expected to soar to 1370, an increase of 120 on last year. Principal of the school, Mr C.H. Ward, said accommodation at the school had been a problem, but several public halls near the school had been provided with some of the furnishing for the new South Grafton High School, and these would be used by the pupils. …
