FOOTBALL: Footballing brothers Hayden and Ryan Matsen are hoping to be part of a Mackay Crusaders side, which can play its way into the National Premier League.

The two played together in the back line with the Crusaders in the club's first trial match of the season against NPL side CQ Energy last weekend but rain from cyclone Dylan washed out a planned rematch in Rockhampton this weekend.

Hayden said that game was the first the brothers had played together since they had a season with the U19 Whitsunday Miners three years ago.

"Ryan plays on the left and I'm in the middle," Hayden said.

"We play well together, although we haven't played much so far. But we seemed to go well against CQ."

The Crusaders will play in Mackay's Premier League this season and were planned to be the nucleus of the side, which would take Mackay back to the state-wide competition, hopefully next season or in 2016. …
