Good Evans, It's a New Buzz for Avenue's Shops

ROLL out the red carpet, because this end of town is feeling revamped and ready for business.

The drawn-out Malcomson St roadworks are coming to a close and Evans Avenue traders are preparing for more shoppers.

They have been working with Mackay Regional Council (MRC) to come up with ways they can generate a buzz about the new-look shopping precinct.

The roadworks, which ramped up in 2011, have hampered access to many businesses over the years. It has been a tough slog for some traders.

However MRC acting manager for economic management Dirk Dowling said the council had been working with business owners on new methods that will create an influx of customers through their doors.

The partnership is a pioneering relationship and Mr Dowling said their strategies, in the long-term, would be good for economic growth for the whole of Mackay.

While roadworks were in full stop-and-go swing, a shoppers' rewards program was started, geared at encouraging the people who worked in the Evans Avenue area to shop in that area themselves. …
