ANYONE visiting Stockton Town Centre will not fail to miss the signifi-cant scale of the regeneration works under way, but it's not all about the bricks and mortar.

The town may be transforming quickly on the ground but so is its growing reputation as a hub for arts and culture.

The town now attracts thousands of visitors throughout the year who experience all manner of nationally and internationally renowned events and festivals.

The Stockton International Riverside Festival brings together street theatre productions from all around the world and the Cycling Festival sees some of the country's top cyclists descend on the town to take part in elite road racing alongside family bike rides.

Alongside great shopping, events, leisure activities and heritage, the High Street also offers a variety of restaurants, pubs and cafes to enjoy. If this wasn't enough the theatre, cinema, live music and dance workshops offered through ARC, the Georgian Theatre and Storytellers act as a magnet for culture lovers. And that offer will grow when the famous Globe Theatre is restored to its former glory.

Here are some of the arts projects that are making Stockton Town Centre stand out from the crowd.

West Row Mural A mural has been constructed on the back and side of 14-16 West Row. The mural was specially designed by the late Stockton-based artist Zak Newton and is made up of three elements that commemorate the heritage of the building, celebrating A Century of Change, at the former site of Stockton Fire Station.

Instant Light INSTANT Light is a magical story by Sara Maitland with illustrations by Robert Dunn.

The story's central character is John Walker, the Stockton-born inventor of the modern friction match.

The mythical tale takes the story of Walker's invention and adds imagined characters from the town and a visiting circus to create a beautiful and heart-warming tale. …
