Bottle Man I SAT in the train, watched the entrance, and all who boarded through its door.

One particular man came in last, placed numerous plastic bags on the floor.

They chinked and clanked, on another some even had a tinny sound. His reward from foraging in bins, twas bottles and tins he'd found.

This man was poor and jobless, but knew how to earn a pound. He collected and took back deposit goods, from bins, from rubbish on the ground.

I observed him, he looked right back, his eyes opened a little wide. In them I was surprised to see, a certain kind of pride.

It said 'I'm not a beggar, I don't want my meals for free, I'd rather collect bottles, handouts aren't for me!' He took out a worn envelope, then the letter that was inside. This made me wonder at the reason, that tears now filled his eyes. …
