Tigers Ready for Armidale; Westlawn Set to Impress in Opening State Cup Fixture at Home

THE FOOTBALL season is back, and it is more exciting than ever.

The first round of the Northern NSW Football State Cup kicks off this weekend, with three matches being played at Junction Hill's Barnier Park on Sunday. This will not be a day to miss for local football fans in light of the State Cup's increasing significance with it now being a platform for local first-grade sides to qualify for the brand new FFA Cup which involves all Australian A-League clubs.

On top of FFA Cup glory the participating clubs will be battling it out for a share of $10,000 prize money.

Urunga Raiders have proven that there is a distinct possibility for teams from this area to taste success, after becoming the first regionally-based team to win the State Cup last year.

Maclean Bobcats begin proceedings against fellow North Coast Football Premier League side Boambee Bombers at 12pm.

This will be followed by a match between Ballina and Inverell Joeys at 1. …
