Wilson Looking to Finally Break Win Drought Today

SURFING: Coolum Beach star Julian Wilson is desperate to break a seven-month win drought at the 6-Star Australian Open of Surfing at Manly today.

The 25-year-old finished last year on top of the ASP world rankings and claimed a career-best sixth place on the all-important ASP World Championship Tour.

But for all of his consistent results, he claimed just one win, at the Prime-rated Mr Price Pro Ballito in South Africa last July.

Now, deep into his first event of 2014, Wilson is keen to break through and build momentum for the new season.

"I'm here because I want to win," he said.

"I want to start winning events. I had a really consistent back half of last year but didn't get a win and I just want to get that ball rolling early this year.

"I'm coming into my fourth year now and I feel a lot more comfortable about what I need to do to be ready for every event."

In the 1.5-metre waves on offer yesterday, Wilson posted an imposing round-four win and an even more impressive round-five victory, when he scored 18. …
