WHAT'S a womper?

Fans of the sport known as body womping, or body surfing, are itching to take to the waves in the first ever Womp Comp at the legendary Noosa Festival of Surfing.

Forget the board, body surfers take to the ocean with just flippers and handplanes to carve their way through the water.

With very few official Womp Comps staged in Australia, the Noosa event should turnout a big crowd during the heats on March 12 and finals on March 15.

It follows the inaugural Womp Comp in Bali last year.

Open to both sexes and all ages, the Womp Comp is expected to attract major stars of the body surfing world plus surf swimmers from the surf lifesaving world, and many top surfboard riders who love to go the womp too, like Noosa's Harrison Roach, Matt Cuddihy and Thomas Bexon. …
