Roper Steps Up to the Main Field at Oceanias

QUEENSLAND rider Emily Roper will be looking to take her national under-23 successes on to the main stage this weekend when she lines up at the Zarraffa's Coffee Oceania Road Championships.

The 2014 championships begin at Nobby today where riders contest individual time trials.

Racing continues tomorrow with para-cyclists and women's road racing at Goombungee.

Men take to the Goombungee road course on Sunday when the under-19 men and under-23 and elite riders round out their championships.

Roper (pictured) will be part of a four-rider Jayco AIS Team competing at the championships.

The 19-year-old made a booming start to 2014 with under-23 wins in the criterium and road race at the Australian Road National Championships in Ballarat last month.

She also finished second in the under-23 time trial.

This weekend she steps up to take on the elite women riders.

"It will be a bit harder for me this time up against the open riders from under-23, but I'm looking forward to it," the former under-19 Oceania road race champion said. …
