Pop Star Raises Bubble Unit Cash on Gameshow

SINGING star Brian McFadden's appearance on a popular television gameshow has raised thousands of pounds for the North East's Bubble Foundation.

The Irish celebrity was on ITV's All Star Family Fortunes at the weekend and netted PS4,530 for the important charity.

Brian is patron of the Bubble Foundation and has seen first-hand the vital work that it does to help poorly children as he has previously visited Newcastle's Bubble Unit.

He said: "The Bubble Foundation is close to my heart so I was delighted to be able to help raise funds by taking part in All Star Family Fortunes.

"I look forward to visiting again later this year when I am back in town."

The popstar's wife, Vogue, dad, and other relatives joined the 33-year-old on the show as they battled it out against EastEnders star Diane Parish and her family.

Team McFadden made it to the final of the competition but narrowly missed out on scooping the top prize of PS10,000.

Last year, The Journal launched a campaign to raise vital funds for the Bubble Foundation to ensure that pioneering research in tackling disorders of the immune system continues.

The Bubble Unit at the Great North Children's Hospital, based at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, is one of only two nationally designated services that treats children with little or no immune system.

More than 20 years ago, the Bubble Foundation was set up in support of the life-saving service, but this is now at risk of closure due to a sharp reduction in donations. The charity buys medical equipment, toys, educational aids, and funds groundbreaking research.

So far, more than PS23,000 has been raised by The Journal campaign.
