BEDLINGTON Terriers are not out of the woods yet but a crucial victory over rival strugglers Morpeth Town last night has lifted them to seventh-from-bottom in the Ebac Northern League First Division, writes Malcolm Pratt.

Morpeth had a goal disallowed when Stephen Forster was adjudged to be marginally offside and an effort from Mark Lancaster rebounded from the crossbar.

The only goal came after 35 minutes as Darren Williamson struck from close range.

Terriers had the chance to double their lead in the second period but Paul King failed with a penalty.

Morpeth Town are now fifth from the basement, just two points ahead of Team Northumbria who currently occupy the last relegation place.

It was a case of 'after the Lord Mayor's Show'for Newcastle Benfield who were involved in a poor game with Penrith at the Sam Smiths ground.

An excellent four-man move involving Chris Carr, Carl Patterson, Stephen Stewart and Mark Convery was converted by Paul Brayson and Benfield went two up as Michael Riley found the net from a tight angle. …
