FNC and Country Rugby's toughest foes won't scare Tom Steer.

After all, when you've travelled solo halfway around the world to further your sporting education, there's not a lot you should fear.

The 19-year-old fullback was part of the FNC under-20 side that endured a tough outing against Bond Uni on Saturday ahead of the upcoming New South Wales Country Championships.

Steer left his native England to follow in his father's footsteps and play for Wollongbar-Alstonville and he has settled in with ease.

"I give everyone at home a bit of stick," he said. "I keep saying how much I love it here.

"It was tough leaving home, but I thought I'd better do it while I was young.

"I just wanted to play rugby and experience travelling.

"The weather is great and life is much more relaxed here. There is nothing wrong with Australia; I love it here."

Steer, who hails from Devon in England's south-west, played college rugby before heading Down Under. …
