Why a wake?

The Finnegan's Wake parade is in honour of the Irishman Finnegan who attended various wakes before holding his own eulogy prior to his death.

HUNDREDS travelled to Clifton for a wake on Saturday -- Finnegan's Wake, that is.

The event, which has been going for 11 years, attracted people from across the Southern Downs as well as Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

For some, part of the experience was also catching a steam train from Warwick to Clifton for the parade.

Sunset Tours operations manager Patricia Vicary, from the Gold Coast, said the group was enticed to the parade after St Patrick's Day last year.

"We did St Patrick's Day at the same pub (O'Shanley's Irish Pub) last year and we had a ball," Mrs Vicary said.

"So we asked about other events and they told us about this."

Mrs Vicary said it was great to learn more about Warwick by attending the event.

"It all just adds to the trip," she said. …
