A CALOUNDRA woman believes better management at a neighbouring unit complex could have saved a man's life.

Maxine Hughes, who lives next door to Coogera Apartments at Cooma Tce, saw the man in his 40s fall six storeys his death in a botched attempt to get into his own apartment after losing his key.

Other witnesses said a friend was lowering the single dad known as John (his full name has not been released) from the roof to his balcony when he slipped.

Coogera Apartments, which is managed by Churches of Christ Care, said the man had made no attempt to phone the emergency 24-hour hotline or managers to gain entry into his apartment.

Churches of Christ Care provides a range of rental housing options for people who are earning a low income, discriminated against in the private housing market or homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

But Ms Hughes said management was all but absent from the complex, which includes 66 units in a low-cost rental agreement. …
