Real Estate Sign Theft 'Points to Tough Times'

THE real estate industry is doing it so tough in Mackay that one agent believes some people are going to great lengths to eliminate the competition.

Mackay Regional Real Estate agent Dee Mangion said about five or six new homes signs, including one big sign for the Avalon Estate, had recently been stolen.

Ms Mangion said while she didn't like to point the finger, she thought building companies could be to blame for the thefts.

"The sign at Avalon Estate was about the size of the back of a ute," she said.

"According to the construction manager, it was there in the morning and gone by the afternoon.

"As a real estate agent I know times are tough but it's not very nice to take other people's signs."

Ms Mangion said she often lost small direction signs to open houses at weekends but believed children might to be blame for that.

"I'd like to think that's kids but these big ones are huge; kids couldn't take them down that quickly. …
