The best news of all is that the traffic nightmare that currently exists should be but a bad memory by this time next year.

Coffs Harbour Council's Director of City Infrastructure Ben Lawson said staff from Council's CityWorks and the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) expect to complete the intersection upgrade within 12 months.

"The key change will be that the works will improve the traffic flows through the Cook Dr and North Boambee Rd intersections by providing additional turning lanes and consolidating the traffic signals at one intersection," Mr Lawson

said.

"The old Cook Dr entrance is to be moved further south, close to the site of the new Bunnings warehouse so there will no longer be any need for the existing traffic lights at Cook Dr, which cause a lot of congestion and hold-ups. …
