RUGBY legend Des Hoy has a feeling today is the day.

Hoy has seen almost every Observer Trophy match between Mid North Coast Axemen and Far North Coast Dolphins since the annual inter-zone clash began in 1977, with the one and only victory coming for the southerners in 2000.

"Today could be the day we get another win," he said.

"Our boys had a great win last week in a trial against Western Plains and they've trained really well.

"We've gone really close in the past couple of years and I've just got a feeling it's our turn."

Host club Coffs Harbour has an action-packed day planned for Rugby Park at Toormina.

Junior matches begin proceedings at 9.30am with Coffs Crusaders hosting Merewether and Port

Pirates.

Snapper will play a first grade trial against Lismore as curtain-raiser to the two trophy matches.

Axemen and Dolphins under-20 Colts take the field at 3pm, followed by the main event.

Forward Chris Tonks is the only Coffs Harbour forward in the starting XV but coach Andrew Kable will send his talented teammates Stu McVicar and Matt Spence off the bench at some stage. …
