SHE says she was raped, he says it was consensual.

Now a jury of seven men and five women will have to determine whether or not Phillip Leigh Ashlin, of Bowen, is guilty of raping a teenager in 2011.

In the first day of the 39-year-old's trial, the District Court in Mackay heard yesterday that the woman, who was 17 years old at the time, snuck into AM Bar with two of her friends on a night in August 2011.

Her friends gave evidence saying the alleged victim had several conversations with Ashlin while smoking outside during the course of the night.

When they went to leave a few hours later the woman offered her two friends a lift home, the court heard.

That is when Ashlin allegedly also asked for a lift, and the woman agreed.

In giving evidence, one of her friends said he asked to be dropped off first. The other friend said she offered to go for a drive but said she preferred to be dropped home. …
