SHE had fought a brain tumour and lung cancer but businesswoman Maureen Lackie was told she only had hours to live after being diagnosed with another illness.

Maureen thought she had got over the worst but tragedy struck when she faced cervical cancer.

And as she held her husband's hand she passed away half an hour later.

Now James has fought back tears to tell how he lost his wife and soulmate.

"Our only tragedy was her own hidden health problems. She had a successful operation on a non-malignant brain tumour in 1992, lung cancer from February 2010 to 2013 but she got eventual full remission.

"But finally it was cervical cancer stage 4 which brought about her demise. I was told by the doctor that she didn't have weeks, or even days but hours left to live. I held her hand and she quietly passed away half an hour later at 2.45pm," said James, 68, of Tynemouth, North Tyneside.

Maureen, 60, died on January 13 with James by her side. …
