Stopping beach erosion with dams

Rubber dams are long tubular-shaped fabrics placed across channels, streams and weir crests to raise the upstream water level when inflated. In open channels, they are used to divert water for irrigation or flood controls.

A NORTH Rockhampton man has the answer to an inflating problem at Zilzie's Muskers Beach.

It's a problem Park Avenue's Don "Duck" Barrett says can easily be fixed without residents having to fork out thousands and councils splashing out millions of dollars on "a sand bag wall".

His solution is an inflatable dam.

Last week The Morning Bulletin spoke to Muskers Beach residents Lyn and Peter Hill about the prospect of paying almost $10,000 in rates to fund a sand bag wall to stop erosion near their home.

According to documents The Morning Bulletin had seen, an 850m-stretch of beach frontage was in urgent need of reclamation. …
