Players Swelter; Heat and Storms Fail to Ruin Carnival

THE sweltering conditions that greeted the 2014 Mike Rowe and Dawn Scott Memorial Carnival made many participants wonder what they were doing.

Hockey is a winter sport but on Sunday the mercury topped 38 degrees during the day. By the end it had been washed out by storms.

After a brief delay due to rain and lightning the players were keen to return in cooler conditions as soon as the first storm passed. But it didn't last for long as a second stormed rolled in to bring the tournament to a premature end.

In Men's A division, City Bears survived the conditions to win the trophy as the leaders when the carnival came to a premature end. They put on a clinical display and won all three of their games.

Women's A division was taken out by Demons A, with two wins and a draw.

Men's B division was a tighter affair, with Royals B just pipping the Sailors B team in the points.

Women's B division was eventually taken out by Westlawn after a post-match recount of the results. …
