RSPCA staff, Queensland Fire and Rescue teams from Bundaberg and Maryborough, a local vet and a New South Wales rescue expert have pulled off a dramatic rescue of a horse after it fell down a well.

The 21-year-old Arab gelding Comet and his owner Kim Hyam will be counting their lucky stars after Comet came through the four-hour rescue exhausted, but with just one cut.

Ms Hyam said she went to feed her four horses on the South Isis property before work yesterday morning and noticed only three had come to greet her.

"I heard Comet and looked around to see just his front legs and head sticking out," she said.

"The well was only about six feet deep but he'd gotten himself so stuck.

"I didn't know the well was there and obviously neither did he, but he must have walked over it looking for grass, and fell in."

Ms Hyam said she had no idea how she was going to get Comet out, firstly calling the police and the SES, But it was Queensland Fire and Rescue which was able to assist and got in contact with the RSPCA. …
