JACK Ziebell has been making his presence felt on the big stage for some time.

Already a big-bodied brute, the North Melbourne midfielder floored Nick Riewoldt during a game in 2011 with a bump that caught the Saints skipper high.

Riewoldt's teammates remonstrated with the baby-faced assassin in no uncertain terms, with Brendon Goddard later calling the young Kangaroo's act "reckless".

And while the match review panel agreed, handing down a three-match suspension to the then 20-year-old, his attack polarised the footy community, the hit being highlighted in an advertising campaign to promote the 2012 season.

But, it would turn out to be the first of three lengthy bans Ziebell has been handed for high bumps, the next coming against Carlton's Aaron Joseph in 2012 (four matches), and the most recent against Adelaide's Jarryd Lyons last year (three).

While Ziebell has said he is reluctant to curb his aggressive nature, if North is to take that next step and become a genuine premiership threat in 2014 it may need him to take the next step and finally become one of the game's elite midfielders. …
