A FIRST-minute try from fullback Jackson Green set the scene for Wattles to score a narrow win over Souths in their TRL season-opener at Clive Berghofer Stadium on Saturday night.

Green finished the game with two tries to help the Warriors get home 28-24.

A Souths' error from the kick-off saw halfback Matt Duggan gain possession to put Green over.

Souths' unhappy start to the match continued when centre Tim Hentschel crossed to put Wattles up 10-0 before hooker Liam Ross scored from dummy-half in the eighth minute to stretch the Warriors' advantage to16-0.

Souths finally got on the board through a try to hooker Chris Richardson which helped set up a 22-12 halftime scoreboard in favour of Wattles.

The Tigers hit back in the second half with two tries but Green's second try with 16 minutes remaining enabled the Warriors to complete their barrier-to-box victory.

Wattles coach Luke Duggan was pleased with his team's effort to turn around a patchy pre-season but he was disappointed with Warriors ball retention. …
