Shaw Catches Eye Again but Spurs Face PS30m Bidding War

STRENGTHENING both full-back positions is likely to be a priority for Spurs in the summer and Daniel Levy will have been impressed by Southampton's Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers yesterday.

With doubts about the defensive abilities of Danny Rose and Kyle Naughton, left-back Shaw and right-back Chambers would represent attractive investments for Spurs. The club have identified Shaw, who made his England debut this season and looks set to go to the World Cup, as a summer target but face stiff competition for the 18-year-old from Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United.

The Blues are thought to be leading the race for his signature, with Jose Mourinho looking to sign a long-term replacement for Ashley Cole in the summer.

A bidding war for Shaw could push his price towards PS30million and it seems unlikely Spurs would be willing to pay that much. But the club's hierarchy will have been impressed with what they saw yesterday, as he kept Aaron Lennon quiet with an assured display. …
