Gruesome Letters Detailed Acts of Bestiality and Torturing Kids

YEARS of trauma and a genuine hate for children led a Rockhampton prisoner to write two gruesome letters, detailing acts of bestiality and torturing kids, to a fellow inmate.

A Rockhampton court yesterday heard how Laurence Craven Wright, 64, a former Australian Navy marine engineer, recovered dead bodies following a ship collision when he was in the force, and survived two earthquakes in Chile.

Both incidents, and the death of his wife in a car crash in 1970, resulted in him developing post-traumatic stress disorder, which had some influence on him writing the gruesome letters.

The former marine engineer yesterday pleaded guilty in the Rockhampton District Court to two counts of making child exploitation material and two counts of distributing it.

Crown prosecutor Susan Hedge said Wright was already serving time behind bars in the Capricorn Correctional Centre and it was during that time he wrote two graphic and disturbing letters to an 18-year-old inmate. …
