CARLISLE UNITED 0 SHREWSBURY TOWN 0 CARLISLE United wasted another opportunity to climb away from the bottom four as their inability to turn possession into goals came back to haunt them once again.

The Cumbrians have taken just three points from a possible 18 so far this month, and their run of seven games without a win is costing them dear as they continue to play well without reaping the rewards.

Stubborn Shrewsbury continue to keep their own survival hopes alive, with a run of just three defeats from their last 11 outings, but a draw did little to boost morale in either camp as the things tightened up dramatically at the foot of the division.

A cross from James Berrett 10 minutes in brought a lovely flick from Sean O'Hanlon. Reece Brown pulled back and thumped a crunching volley on to the bar.

Another deep Cumbrian cross had Shrewsbury stretched as the big men stayed forward, and Brown was there again as he shrugged off his marker.

His header flew past the stranded shot-stopper, but the woodwork came into play once more as it rattled back off the underside of the crossbar. …
