Female Duo on Fast Track to Successful Mission in Championship

TODAY'S opening round of the Castrol EDGE CIK Stars of Karting Championship, hosted by the Ipswich Kart Club, features a number of female racers.

In a sport normally dominated by males, Gold Coaster Holly Patrizi and fellow Ipswich Kart Club member Jo Mackay are two fast females set to take on the boys.

Patrizi, whose cousin Michael competes in the Porsche Carrera Cup Series, is high in confidence after a fourth place finish in the Race of Stars last October.

"After finishing fourth at the Race of Stars, I'm coming into this weekend with a bit of confidence as I'm racing against a lot of the competitors this weekend," said Patrizi, 18.

"I've been racing for 10 years now and this will be the largest field I've ever raced in."

Patrizi said that karting provided her with a lot more than just the ability to race fast around a circuit while reaching speeds in excess of 120km/h.

"Over the years I've met a lot of people from around Australia, and the world for that matter, while enjoying some great experiences," she said. …
