THE knife she had armed herself with was not meant for her fiance.

But when Nicola Maria Baillie was lashing out at her daughter's boyfriend Nathan Evans, she severed an artery in Darrin Gay's leg.

It was an injury that quickly led to his death after he was taken from a Bribie Island unit to the Royal Brisbane Hospital on that fateful day in April, 2012.

Bailliee, who originally lived in Hervey Bay when she moved from New Zealand and has lived on the Sunshine and Gold coasts, pleaded guilty yesterday to manslaughter.

The 48-year-old was sentenced to eight years' jail for the family dispute gone wrong.

But she could be out in time to spend Christmas with her family if she can convince parole authorities to free her.

Baillie also pleaded guilty to wounding Mr Evans, who suffered knife wounds - one after a knife was thrown at his back - during the struggles in the holiday unit.

Crown prosecutor Belinda Merrin told Brisbane Supreme Court that Baillie, her daughter and both victims were drunk and on prescription drugs when the altercation broke out. …
