REVEREND Preachalot isn't a shy, retiring type - and neither is the bloke who takes his role on stage.

Actor and singer Gordon Timbs is one of the "originals" performing with Ipswich City Council's Seniors' Concert Group.

The group is acting out a script penned by member Eddie Lee, titled Blackstone Bell.

"I'm the vicar. The general plot is that they have a fete which raises funds to replace the broken church bell," Gordon said.

"There's a very heavy storm that washes out most of the stalls.

"Each of the plays that we perform is original, written by a member of the group.

"In everything we do, most of the songs are for the era of a[approximately]our lot', which corresponds to most of the audience. We try and get the audience to sing along."

A few months after Gordon retired from dentistry in 2001, he was invited to join the talented group.

Gordon was already an accomplished performer with the Ipswich Orpheus Chorale.

"It's very fulfilling to be able to perform and to interact with an audience," he said. …
