THE annual Voices on the Coast Festival is not just a youth literature festival, it is an addiction.

This can definitely be said for Dakabin State High School librarian Andrew Hamson who has been attending the festival throughout its 19 years in operation.

Asked what keeps him coming back, Andrew said he enjoyed introducing students to new authors.

"The festival really gives students good grounding and an insight into how these authors write because they get to see them in person, hear their stories and ask them questions," he said.

"I believe this experience gives them ideas and enhances their own writing."

Andrew will be taking 10 students this year in Years 8 to 11 with a variety of students wishing to attend, as well as a very dedicated group of students who want to attend each year.

"Our biggest group one year has been 38 and I personally find it one of the best festivals of its kind available.

"I personally enjoy catching up with authors I have met previously, taking our books and having them signed and occasionally purchasing new books for the school. …
