EVER since I was a little girl, I dreamt of visiting the popular Greek island of Santorini (Thira).

In 2007 my wish came true and even though I only had 24 hours on the island, I fell in love with the people, beauty, culture and history.

I stayed in the village of Fira, the centre of Santorini, which hangs on the Caldera cliffs, making you feel like you're waking up in a postcard.

Although my time on the little island was brief, I enjoyed my time so much I have decided to head back over there with my boyfriend in July.

Few travel destinations combine beautiful beaches, spectacular scenery, ancient cities, amazing restaurants, some of the world's best wine, and an active volcano.

My favourite part about Santorini is that each village (and the family-owned villas) encompasses that sought-after "small town charm".

Villa Koronios (where I stayed in 2007 and will stay again) has exactly that.

Many of the villas are run by Greek families who wear many hats: as the cook, cleaner, chauffeur, and photographer (for all those happy snaps) but also as an unofficial tour guide.

Santorini is a 73sq km in the southern Aegean Sea and the best way to discover its secrets is by renting a quad bike or moped.
