IT was a while since Mitchell Watt had been on the baseball field but he made up for his absence in spades.

The 19-year-old was among the heroes as Far North Coast kept alive its hopes of success in the Baseball Queensland Under-25 state titles -- just.

Watt came back from a wild pitch to help his side overturn a 5-2 deficit and claim a nail-biting 8-6 win over North Queensland at Lismore's Albert Park yesterday.

It was the first competitive match in eight months for Watt, who enjoyed a talented junior career but has been out of action while completing a chef's apprenticeship.

"It's hard being away from it," Watt, who plays for Easts Redbirds in the FNC Major League, said.

"You have to pay the bills (though).

"Work has to come first.

"I'm going to have two more games here (on Saturday) and a club game as well.

"We'll see how I pull up but I think I'll be sore on Monday.

"I hope I can get a day out of the kitchens. …
