SIMON Ambrose is the boss of Sunshine Coast Destinations. Before embracing the coastal lifestyle, Simon lived the life of a farmhand.

What was your first job?

My first job was as a farmhand on a one-year work placement as prior learning for Muresk Agricultural College. The farm was in Goomalling in WA 21/2 hours north-west of Perth and was a typical wheat and sheep farm.

What lesson did you learn that you keep with you today?

To watch out for the rocks when you are driving across paddocks, to keep your thumbs above the steering wheel and how to jack up a truck and change tyres properly.

What did you buy with your first pay?

I bought spotties for my ute.

How long did the job last?

Twelve months, which was great as I went through all of the seasons and job requirements. We started off with shearing, then got into rock clearing and paddock prep, seeding, lambing and mulesing then harvesting. …
