EVERY police motorcycle in the state will be out on major highways and arterials this weekend for the start of the school holidays.

Sunshine Coast police have hit the highway in a major operation aimed at targeting the Fatal Five - speeding, inattention, seatbelts, drink- and drug-driving, and fatigue.

As the Bruce Hwy started to clog yesterday afternoon, police warned motorists to take care, slow down and make it safely to their holiday destination.

"We will be doing speed camera deployment on the main arterials, motorcycles, high-visibility and undercover police cars will be travelling up and down the main roads from this weekend," Sunshine Coast Road Policing Unit officer-in-charge Dave Nelson said.

"We really want to come back to the basics because we are finding a lot of people are making excuses instead of understanding that you just can't speed because it will increase your chances of being involved in a traffic crash. …
