STEVEN Bowditch was ranked outside the world's top 300 at the start of the year, but the PGA of Australia still expected big things from the Peregian Beach golfer. In its predictions for 2014, the national golf body said: "Steve Bowditch will make the Tour Championship by finishing top 30 on the FedExCup standings: The Queenslander has a couple of seasons on the PGA Tour under his belt and is ready to make an impact." Well, the PGA seems to be on to something. After the 30-year-old won his maiden US PGA Tour event last week, he rocketed to 26th on the season ladder.

Caddy cops a low blow

IT SEEMS Bowditch has a wicked sense of humour. After winning the Valero Texas Open on Monday and booking a spot in the US Masters, he pulled an April fool's joke on his caddy, Mike Brennan. "I told Mike that he would not be able to caddy for me next week as I wanted my dad (Barry) on the bag. I let him stew over it for half an hour or so, then I had to tell him as he went pale for a bit."
