Mercer Well Prepared for Title Chase Mercer Fancies Chances

SURF LIFESAVING: Noosa Heads' Jordan Mercer believes she is in better shape than ever and says she is poised for a tilt at the national ironwoman title this weekend.

The 20-year-old has breezed through the opening rounds at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships at Scarborough this week after capturing the state ironwoman crown at the Gold Coast last month.

With four Nutri-Grain Ironwoman Series campaigns to her name, Mercer believes she is ready to claim one of the sport's biggest accolades.

"I think it (the national ironwoman title) definitely is (within reach)," she said.

"I've trained very hard and I think the biggest difference is this year I'm in a great mindset.

"That really could be the difference for me compared to past years.

"I'm not so stressed and worried about races. I'm racing and making decisions with a clear head and for me that's when I get my best result."
